Extended support for Australian Apprenticeships

IntoWork Australia welcomes the announcement of a $716 million program to extend wage subsidies for apprentices employed under the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements program (BAC).

The Completing Apprenticeship Commencements (CAC) program provides wage subsidies for the second and third years of an apprenticeship, for those employed under the original BAC program.

“The BAC program which runs until March next year is expected to support 270,000 commencements with 50 per cent wage subsidies for eligible first year apprentices. This latest announcement really builds on that momentum and provides vital additional support for apprentices to continue and finish their training,” said IntoWork Australia Group CEO Poul Bottern.

Under the CAC, eligible employers will receive a 10 per cent wage subsidy in the second year of an eligible apprenticeship, up to a maximum of $1,500 per quarter, and a 5 per cent wage subsidy in the third year of their apprenticeship, to a maximum of $750 per quarter.

The CAC program commences in October 2021 for eligible employees, and both the BAC and CAC are available to employers of any size, industry or geographic location, until 31 March 2022.

“We currently work with in excess of 50,000 apprentices and trainees and their employers, and we know BAC has given employers confidence to start new apprentices or trainees during uncertain times. I have no doubt this new initiative will help keep apprentices in training and continue to build the skills pipeline which is vital to Australia’s recovery from the pandemic,” said Mr Bottern.
